| IT WORKS! This is a reading, writing and spelling system all in one system. The system includes a 170 page manual---a set of alphabet cards---and 10 volumes of American Family Tales, which are phonetic basal readers, ranging from 90-190 pages and have 6-8 stories in each book. You teach the short "a" concept and then the children go to the first reader, which is all about "Dad," using all short "a" words. Book 2 is all about the children and is all short "i" words. Book 3 is all about "Mom" and is all short "o" words and so on through the phonetic sounds, including short and long vowels, consonant blends, digraphs, end blends, etc. This system uses the good old "schoolmaster drill" approach!
