World History
From a Latter-day Saints' Perspective
Stan Sorensen has created a masterpiece for LDS homeschoolers!  He has
written and compiled world history in an easy to teach, biographical format which allows students as young as 10-11 to understand world history!  This is a five-volume, 1,750 page work which includes four world history sections:  Ancient, Medieval, Renaissance, and the Modern World.  The fifth volume is a student workbook which includes 2,200 questions for students to answer.  The same questions, with answers, are included in the text of the history.  The "LDS" element ofthe history is two-fold:  (1) Stan has included fifty-two figures from the Old Testament, New Testament and Book of Mormon, where they fit, chronologically, in with the secular figures.
So, for example, you will see that Abraham and the Slave Trade...Joseph and Hammurabi...Ruth and the Trojan Wars...Aesop and Nephi...the start of construction of The Great Wall of China and King Benjamin...Victor Hugo and Brigham Young...were contemporaries!  And (2) thirteen of the LDS Church presidents are included, where they fit, chronologically, with the secular figures and events.  There are 470 people and events that are included in the history.  Events are listed according to their starting dates and people by their birthdates.  It is truly a fascinating format in which to study and to teach world history. Because the "biographical" format is so much easier for students to handle, you can begin your students much earlier than if you were to teach with a normal "narrative" format world history program.  You should be able to begin your students, depending on maturity levels, at about age 10 to 12.
